The first-generation Scion tC proved that a modern-day sports coupe doesn’t have to cost big money to offer big style or performance, and that approach helped it win thousands of new customers over the years. According to MA Scion Dealerships, things are different, but so is the all-new 2011 tC—in fact, just about the only thing that remains the same is its dedication to providing drivers with one of the best ownership experiences in its segment.
As you’d expect in a car targeted at enthusiasts, key powertrain and chassis changes highlight the tC’s improvements. The sexy Scion now boasts an all-new 2.5-liter I4 engine with cutting-edge features like Toyota’s intelligent dual variable valve timing technology, roller rocker arms and a variable-induction intake manifold system that can boost the engine’s torque by changing the length of its air-intake pipe. Also in the mix: A new overall intake-manifold design as well as a lightweight, sport-tuned exhaust system. According to Scion Maryland, the result is a mill capable of delivering 19 more hp and 11 more lb-ft of torque than last year’s engine. Combined with a choice of two advanced six-speed transmissions, a manual and an automatic with sequential shifting, the bottom line is that the new tC accelerates quicker than the 2010 model while still delivering better fuel efficiency.
The 2011 tC offers nimbler handling, too, courtesy of an enhanced sport-tuned suspension that relies on MacPherson struts up front and double wishbones out back, along with larger 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, wider tires and bigger brakes.
Speaking of performance upgrades, the all-new tC also packs a powerful punch in terms of audio systems. Superior sound is delivered by a 300-watt, eight-speaker setup that leverages components from the Lexus LX570 and includes premium mid-range speakers and woofers for unparalleled audio performance in the tC’s segment. Naturally, the sound system also is iPod compatible through a USB port and offers steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. And all that comes standard on the tC.
Wrapped in an aggressive new exterior and showcasing a sophisticated yet athletic cabin, the 2011 Scion tC will launch later this year with an MSRP of $18,275 with a manual transmission and $19,275 with an auto box.
