More details about the upcoming coupe design jointly by Toyota and Subaru are beginning to immerge. The Toyota and Subaru coupe will have very different exterior design cues, but the vehicles will largely be based on the Subaru Impreza platform, utilizing Subaru’s boxer engine as well as transmission.

While the platform will be dominated by Subaru’s influence, Toyota will be contributing mostly in terms of product planning and will also be controlling build quality. Reportedly, the Toyota variant will likely stay in Japan, despite rumors that the coupe would be the new Celica which remained a popular seller on Toyota dealer St Paul lots until its ultimate demise. Conversely, the Subaru coupe will be sold globally.

The platform of the new coupe will essentially be taking Subaru’s famous all-wheel drive platform and modifying it to become a rear-wheel drive platform. Although both automakers will be involved in the vehicle’s production, it will be built at Subaru’s Gunma facilities in Japan. Both vehicles will have a version of Subaru’s beloved 2.0 liter boxer engine which generates 220 horsepower. It will receive the STI’s six speed gearbox.

The upcoming Toyota coupe will most likely ride on a 103 inch wheelbase and feature a 2+2 configuration inside. The vehicle is expected to make its debut in 2011and be priced under $20K, which Burnsville car loans providers expect will make for an attractive model amid slowing auto sales.
