Although rumors of a growing Prius lineup are nothing new, there are finally more concrete details emerging concerning the upcoming Toyota Prius multi-purpose vehicle. According to insiders, the new Prius MPV will be named “Alpha” and will begin arriving in March of 2011.
Built on the same platform as the current Prius sedan, the new Prius Alpha MPV will feature third row seating and an overall length that will be at least one foot longer than the Prius. Toyota will reportedly offer a five passenger and seven passenger model.
In addition to a new hybrid MPV, Toyota is also developing a hybrid vehicle based on the RAV4 compact crossover. The Prius will also become available as a plug-in hybrid in 2011.
