Every few months there are rumors concerning successors to the the Toyota Supra and MR2. These two on-again, off-again sports cars appear to be on again in the midst of continued work on the Toyota FT-86 rear-wheel-drive sports coupe.

The latest rumors suggest that both the Supra and MR2 will hit the market within the next four years. The MR2 could feature a hybrid powertrain with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. A V6-equipped hybrid powertrain was originally considered, but due to the staggering sales of the Honda CR-Z in Japan, engineers at Toyota are rumored to favor a more fuel-efficient unit instead.

As for the Supra, which is said to be based on the FT-HS Concept, a hybrid powertrain with a V6 engine will be more likely. Toyota is keen to to the sporty car market after the drought of models the past few years, Toyota dealerships Boston says.

It also would appear that the development of these two models are running in conjunction with the development of the FT-86 sports car, which is being co-developed Subaru. The FT-86 is eagerly awaited by enthusiasts, according to Albuquerque Toyota dealerships.
