Toyota dealers have reportedly resumed selling the eight models that were cited under the 2.3 million vehicle recall over sticking accelerator pedals. The cars being sold have received the additional part necessary to fix the mechanical problem that could potentially cause pedals to become stuck.
Toyota began receiving the parts and technical manuals needed to fix the recalled vehicles earlier this week. While existing customer remain the top priority, no shortages of parts have been reported and dealers are balancing the repairs of existing customers as well as those of unsold vehicles.
Toyota temporarily stopped selling many of their most popular models last week in an effort to ensure the safety of their vehicles. But due to stunted sales, Toyota estimates that the global cost of this massive recall will approach $2 billion.
Despite a rough start to 2010, Toyota recently posted a healthy $77 million operating profit at the end of 2009, which prompted the automaker to upgrade its financial estimates for the fiscal year ending in March.
