Toyota Etios Concept Debuts in India

by Toyota in the News on January 5, 2010

Toyota has set its sights on developing markets such as India and South America, along with other automakers looking to capitalize on these lucrative regions. To do this, Toyota will be launching an all-new small car called the Etios which makes its debut this week at the Auto Expo New Delhi Show.

Although officially a concept, Toyota says the Etios is 90 percent production ready. Underpinning the Etios is an all-new platform that will feature both a sedan and a hatchback model. Powering the Etios will be two gasoline engines, a 1.2-liter unit and a 1.5-liter units. A diesel engine may eventually find its way into this model, but for now those plans have been put on hold.

Toyota will be selling the Etios in South East Asian, Russia, and South America. In India alone, Toyota hopes to sell 70,000 units per year. Pricing has yet to be released but the Etios is expected to be priced around $10,000.
