Despite production setbacks stemming from the earthquake in Japan on March 11, the Toyota Prius will likely retain its title of the best-selling hybrid this year. After selling more than one million Prii in the U.S. over the past 11 years, Toyota is now preparing to launch a number of new models to broaden the hybrid’s appeal.

Yesterday, in celebration of the Prius’ sales milestone, Toyota began offering commemorative badges that owners can paste on their windows or bumpers. Available at ToyotaPriusProjects.com, these badges will be given to more than 10,000 visitors to the site.

The design on the badge will be unique to every car, and the design will be based on how many Prii an owner owns, how many miles they have driven, and on the car’s model year.

The Toyota Prius has far fewer emissions than many other vehicles because it burns less fuel to go the same distance. The design of the badge is intended to reflect that important fact. However, Toyota promises that no two badges will look alike.
