Toyota Motor Sales USA just announced yet another recall involving 2.3 million vehicles, in addition to the 4.2 million vehicles already recalled, due to sticking accelerator pedals.

In rare instances, Toyota admits that there is a risk that accelerator pedal components could become particularly depressed, completely stick, or return slowly to an idle position. These instances are not common, but Toyota is moving swiftly to quell any lingering concerns and eliminate any remaining risks concerning this issue.

Toyota says that these pedals can stick as a result of premature wear on certain pedal mechanisms. About 1.7 million vehicles fall into both the ongoing recall as well as this all-new recall. Models involved in this new recall include the 2007-2010 Toyota Camry, 2009-2010 Toyota Corolla, 2009-2010 Toyota RAV4, 2009-2010 Toyota Matrix, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2010 Toyota Highlander, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, and 2008-2010 Sequoia.

It is advised that anyone effected by stuck or impaired accelerator pedals should make every attempt to get their vehicle to a safe location and keep it parked. Should drivers experience issues with their accelerator pedal, they are urged to contact a Toyota dealership immediately.

In addition to a string of recalls in the U.S., Toyota also announced that these recalls have also spread to Europe where another 2 million vehicles are being recalled for sticking pedals. The accelerator pedals are reportedly the product of Canadian supplier CTS Automotive.
