With gas prices continuing to rise, so is demand for today’s most fuel-efficient vehicles. A Raton, New Mexico Toyota dealer says that customers should take note of a recent study from TrueCar.com, a leading authority on new car pricing, trends and forecasting. According to the website’s data on pricing and fuel economy, the Toyota Prius remains the country’s fuel-efficiency leader, while a number of the company’s other products were at the top of their segments. (TrueCar notes that “Pure electric vehicles were excluded from the list because there is no cost associated with filling up a tank.”)

  • Leading the industry—and its segment—the Prius is capable of reaching up to 51 mpg city/48 mpg highway/50 mpg combined and boasts an MSRP that starts at $23,050.
  • The all-new 2011 Toyota Avalon was the most fuel-efficient entry in TrueCar’s “Large Car” segment, thanks to an EPA line of 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway/23 mpg combined and a starting price of $32,595.
  • In the Midsize Car category, the Toyota Camry Hybrid trailed only the Chevrolet Volt, attaining EPA marks of 31 mpg city/35 mpg highway/33 mpg combined. The base price of a Camry Hybrid is $26,675—more than $14,000 less than the Volt’s.
  • Another Toyota hybrid, the Highlander Hybrid, topped the Mid-size SUV segment with a price of $37,490 and EPA ratings of 28 mpg city/28 mpg highway/28 mpg combined.
  • Taking honors among the minivans was the Toyota Sienna—the only vehicle in its segment to offer an I4 engine. The Sienna is available from $24,560, with fuel economy ratings of up to 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.
  • Leveraging EPA marks of up to 21 mpg city/25 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, along with an MSRP of $16,365, the Toyota Tacoma was the second-place finisher in the Small Truck class.
  • Also earning the No. 2 spot in its segment—Subcompact Cars—was the Toyota Yaris. The Yaris starts at just $12,995 and is capable of 29 mpg city/36 mpg highway/32 mpg combined.
