The Toyota Tacoma—already the best-selling compact pickup in America—is going to be even better for the 2011 model year, thanks to two new accessories packages based on the popular Tacoma T|X show truck that debuted at last year’s Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show. Developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), the automaker’s in-house performance division, the packages are available on both Access and Double Cab versions of the V6-powered Tacoma in either its PreRunner or 4X4 configuration.

Available for ordering in September, the T|X package gives the Tacoma a surprisingly menacing look with 16-inch black-alloy wheels from TRD, wrapped in BF Goodrich Rugged Trail rubber, and adds matching black-tube side steps, a stainless steel exhaust tip and special T|X graphics. It’s a custom appearance without the custom cost, as the package provides $2,453 worth of aggressive accessories for just $1,699—a discount of more than $750.

The T|X Pro package, which is available now, boasts a TRD cat-back performance exhaust for a little more power and a lot more throaty engine sounds, along with the same wheel/tire combo found in the T|X setup, and unique T|X Pro graphics. And the bottom line Toyota Price? Cambridge Toyota says the bottom line is a package MSRP of $1,699, a discount of $720 as compared with buying the accessories separately.

And because the T|X upgrades also require the TRD Off-Road package, drivers end up with a truck that’s as capable as it is eye-catching. An electronic locking rear differential, progressive-rate front springs, specially tuned Bilstein shocks and a front stabilizer bar are all in the mix here to improve off-road performance, and fog lights, sport seats and an overhead console add further enhancements.

Perhaps the best news? Unlike aftermarket accessories, all the T|X and Off-Road package goodies are covered under Toyota’s comprehensive 3-year/36,000-mile vehicle limited warranty.

In other words, when it comes to finding a compact pickup that delivers big-time style and performance, Toyota’s got you covered.
