According to the latest reports from Ward’s Automotive, the platform that underpins the latest Scion tC could also be used to fuel other models, such as a new five door model.

According to MA Scion, Toyota’s MC platform is widely used in a variety of applications ranging from the Corolla to the Venza crossover. Thus, it really wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Toyota to cost effectively squeeze even more models out of this versatile platform.

“This platform has plenty of flexibility to do more with,” Jack Hollis, Scion vice president-Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., tells Ward’s in an interview.

Strategically, expanding upon the Scion lineup would be wise. Laurel Scion says the brand is intended to encourage buyers to eventually trade up to a Toyota-branded model. Giving would-be Scion buyers just a few more options would help draw additional customers to the lineup, especially if this potential four- or five-door model is slightly larger than the existing xB or the xD.

While there has been no official word on any such vehicle under consideration by Toyota, Akio Toyoda has hinted that more attention needs to be put on the youth-oriented brand regardless.
